France Double World Wine Champion

By Marie Decreme
04/11/2014

When it comes to wine, France is at its top. The International Organisation of Vine and Wine announced that France should reclaim its title as world leader, with 46.2 billion hectolitres produced in 2014. It overtakes Italy, and Spain. Largest producer, also biggest amateur: every French person consumes 44.2 litres of wine on average, the equivalent of 63 bottles! Hard to believe that thirty years ago, they used to drink twice as much, and yet it is true… In terms of “wine-drinking”, France is number one, followed closely by Slovenia and Croatia. A real vinocracy!
