La Trouvaille
La Trouvaille off Carnaby Street, is the brainchild of Thierry Bouteloup and Guillaume Siard, who collectively have over twenty years experience in fine dining and fine wines.
This little restaurant certainly delivers. With an all white interior and Perspex chairs as seen on their website, I was worried that the décor might render the place a little cold. Yet when my friend and I were shown upstairs, we were met with a warm and inviting candlelit atmosphere in which the pale colouring added serenity. I may have been in a particularly good mood given the fact it was on one of this summer’s only warm nights that I ventured there, but I was struck nonetheless by the friendliness and attentiveness of La Trouvaille’s staff.
We began with champagne cocktails and I ordered the quail starter which was tasty and light. My main course left a little to be desired, the dorade I ordered was a little overcooked and the sauce, bland yet the desert, a chocolate fondant, amply made up for this. With a warm and delicious centre, it was neither too sticky nor too sweet and came with wonderful ginger ice-cream. My friend thoroughly enjoyed both his courses and in particularly, the veal.
It is a wonderful place for a romantic tête-à-tête. Indeed there is very little room for anything other than small tables. Not a place to bring the family. I would highly recommend it for that special first date. It is a little pricey, but by and large, I thought it was worth it.
