Marion Cotillard wins the Oscar for Best Actress
After receiving the BAFTA award earlier this year, French actress Marion Cotillard was named this Sunday 24th February best actress for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose, this fabulous movie that 6 millions people went to see throughout the world (5 millions in France alone). She appeared very touched at the ceremony and thanked all the film crew. She was indeed only the third French Actress in the Academy Award history to receive this prize after Claudette Colbert in 1934 for his role in It Happened One Night and Simone Signoret in 1959 for her role in Room at the Top. But It was also a glorious time for French Cinema as Marion Cotillard was on Sunday the first one to receive the Best Actress award for a role in a French Film. And another French film won best short-film Oscar: Le Mozart des Pickpockets (The Mozart of Pickpockets) by Philippe Pollet-Villard.
Speechless, Marion Cotillard gave this acceptance speech: 'Oh -- thank you so much. Olivier, what you did to me, Maestro Olivier Dahan, you rocked my life. You truly rocked my life. Thank you so much to Picturehouse for your passion, members of the Academy, thank you so, so much. And -- wow. Well, I'm speechless now. I -- I -- well, I -- thank you life, thank you love, and it is true, there is some angels in this city. Thank you so, so much.'
La Vie en Rose was also awarded best Makeup.
