Amour nominated for 5 Academy Awards
This is not good for French Cinema. The nominations for the Oscars have just been announced and Amour of Michael Haneke is the only French film to have been nominated. Amour with Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva and Isabelle Huppert won the Palme d’Or in 2012. Today it has been selected to compete in a number of major categories: Best Film, Best Foreign Film, Best Scenario, Best Director and to top it all, Emmanuelle Riva now aged 85 is also running for the Best Actress Academy Award.
Many will be vastly disappointed by the fact that neither The Untouchables with Omar Sy or Rust and Bones with Marion Cotillard have been nominated.
So which films received the honours?
1) Steven Spielberg’s latest film about Lincoln - 12 nominations
2) The Life of Pi by Ang Lee – 11 nominations
3) Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables – 8 nominations
4) Happiness Therapy by David O’Russel – 8 nominations
5) Ben Affleck’s Argo – 7 nominations
6) Zero Dark Thirty by Kathryn Bigelow – 5 nominations
Now we will have to wait until 26th February to find out who the winners are.
