Wanted: London's Best Croissant

FranceInLondon is calling on all Londoners to find “the perfect croissant”.As much as the team would quite happily spend a month munching through every croissant London has to offer, we have an autumn wardrobe to fit into! So, to help narrow the task, we have selected five criteria and are asking you to nominate your “best croissant” accordingly…

1. The look of the thing: is it attractive and appetising? Crisp and golden and a nice crescent shape?
2. Yumminess: Otherwise known as “quantity of butter used”. A morning croissant is not the time for dietary restraint when it comes to butter content-:less is definitely not more.
3. Lightness: Obviously we are not referring to calories here (see point 2) but rather to the airiness of the pastry. A croissant must be fluffy, soft and airy, otherwise it is just a funny shaped brioche.
4. Value for money: is there a cheap yet delicious specimen out there to rival the more expensive “Patisserie” versions. I know the Sainsbury’s version isn’t necessarily to be sniffed at…
5. Does it have reasonable shelf life? By this we mean a croissant that will not lose its shape/ turn to cardboard within 10 minutes of leaving the shop.

So here are the criteria we would like you to judge the croissants on and report back to us so that we may then go out, taste and select London’s perfect croissant for you. There may even be something in it for you…

Lifestyle

London by Barge

If the canals played a pivotal role during the Industrial Revolution in England, nowadays, they’ve calmed it down a bit, and instead have become a rather relaxing place to wander and…live. FranceInLondon decided to investigate this interesting lifestyle choice further during a walk around some of London’s most beautiful canals, or “Little Venice” as it has now been romantically named.

Calais – Far More than a Pit Stop

I confess that my decision to visit Calais was purely practical. It offered a convenient midway pit stop that would satisfy my ache for the sea and still permit a smooth train journey between my home in London and Paris, my final destination where I was due to visit a friend later in the week. And yet, it turned into much more than that...

Visiting Paris by Boris Bike

More than one year after the Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme kick-off, this new means of transport seems to have become part of every day life. The proof is in Mr Ian Mansfield’s surprising initiative: on 21st August, he decided to take the Eurostar to Paris… with a Boris Bike!
