FranceInLondon is calling on all Londoners to find “the perfect croissant”.As much as the team would quite happily spend a month munching through every croissant London has to offer, we have an autumn wardrobe to fit into! So, to help narrow the task, we have selected five criteria and are asking you to nominate your “best croissant” accordingly…
1. The look of the thing: is it attractive and appetising? Crisp and golden and a nice crescent shape?
2. Yumminess: Otherwise known as “quantity of butter used”. A morning croissant is not the time for dietary restraint when it comes to butter content-:less is definitely not more.
3. Lightness: Obviously we are not referring to calories here (see point 2) but rather to the airiness of the pastry. A croissant must be fluffy, soft and airy, otherwise it is just a funny shaped brioche.
4. Value for money: is there a cheap yet delicious specimen out there to rival the more expensive “Patisserie” versions. I know the Sainsbury’s version isn’t necessarily to be sniffed at…
5. Does it have reasonable shelf life? By this we mean a croissant that will not lose its shape/ turn to cardboard within 10 minutes of leaving the shop.
So here are the criteria we would like you to judge the croissants on and report back to us so that we may then go out, taste and select London’s perfect croissant for you. There may even be something in it for you…
