So what floats your boat? Love a good historical romp? Then The Princess of Montpensier must have been right up your alley. Can’t resist a good literary adaptation? So which did you prefer: The Hedgehog or The Well Digger’s Daughter? Did We have a Pope fill your need for a good comedy? Like a bit more drama to your films? Well quite frankly you were spoilt for choice! And let’s not forget, of course, the highly lauded, Oscar winning, record breaking The Artist!

French cinema has long occupied an important place on the international film scene, but this year it has undoubtedly outdone itself. There have, of course, been previous Gallic Oscar successes, but none on the scale of Michel Hazanavicius’s The Artist. Against all logic, this low-budget, black and white silent movie swept the boards bringing home 5 awards, including Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Actor. But what did you think? Did you think it deserved them?
