Let's set all the polemics raised by this Chinese edition of the Olympic Games aside and let's focus on the long awaited sporting events. Who are the French athletes we're all going to support this Summer? In which discipline are they more likely to win?

Swimming

Swimmers will be scrutinised; they are some of the most likely to bring gold home. Amongst them Laure Manaudou who performed really well this year after she changed her manager and Alain Bernard,who broke three world records at the European Championships in Eindhoven last March.

Athletics

Athletics, has always, attracted a larger audience than any other discipline, it is one of the French favourite sports. We can count many champions in the French team: Christine Arron, who won a bronze medal in Athens in the 4x100m relay; Ladji Doucoure, who won two gold medals in the latest World Championships in Helsinki in 2005; and Eunice Barber originally from Sierra Leone (heptathlon and long jump) as well as Romain Mesnil, a brilliant pole volter.
In Beijing, the athletics events will take place from 15th to 24th August. There will be 47 French athletes in total (24 for the men, 23 for the women).
