Two young girls live in Paris in 1962. One dreams of becoming a singer, the other looks after her two children. They go their separate ways and meet up ten years later during a demonstration. Their story illustrates Simone de Beauvoir’s phrase, “One is not born a woman; one becomes one.” Despite the contrast they remain friends and share in the various dramas of each other’s lives, in the process affirming their different female identities.
